Back in 1994, while working for the company formerly known as Bell-Northern Research, I started an applied research project to apply formal methods to real industrial problems related to proper conformance testing with the Institute for System Programming(ISP) which is part of the Russian Academy of Science. This project tackled the problem of automated test case generation, execution and analysis for the DMS operating system. DMS is a very large central office telephone switch built by Nortel Networks. At one time, DMS was the largest S/W project in the world at around 35 million lines of code. That honour now most likely belong to Window XP/Vista.

The UniTesK project which is undertaking the project to properly test Linux is the current re-incarnation of that original project. I keep an old snapshot of RedVerst Project.
